Fructosamine
Measures glucose-bound protein levels to assess average blood sugar control over 2–3 weeks.
Why This Biomarker Matters
Fructosamine provides a shorter-term view of glucose control, making it useful for detecting recent changes and guiding treatment adjustments in diabetes management.
Overview
Fructosamine is a compound formed when glucose binds to proteins in your blood. This test measures fructosamine levels to assess your average blood glucose control over the past 2–3 weeks—shorter than the 3-month window of hemoglobin A1C. It's particularly useful for monitoring blood sugar in pregnant women, people with rapidly changing glucose levels, or those newly diagnosed with diabetes. Elevated fructosamine suggests inadequate glucose control during that recent period.
