This test detects IgE antibodies against guar gum, a thickening agent derived from guar bean seeds found in many processed foods and beverages. While guar gum allergies are relatively rare, they can occur in sensitive individuals, causing oral itching, gastrointestinal symptoms, or in rare cases, more severe reactions. This test is useful for confirming suspected guar gum sensitivity, particularly in people with known legume allergies, as cross-reactivity is possible.
Baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) IgE antibodies indicate a potential allergic reaction to this common yeast used in baking and fermentation. An IgE antibody test detects whether your immune system has mounted an allergic response to yeast proteins. Elevated IgE suggests a true IgE-mediated yeast allergy, which can cause itching, swelling, hives, or in severe cases, anaphylaxis. This helps distinguish yeast allergy from yeast intolerance or sensitivity.
